Happy New Year! Wishing you a tremendous 2024🌟
In this latest episode, I engaged in an insightful discussion with Vanathy Paranthaman. Vanathy is the director of the Conscious Mind Clinic based in Vancouver. She is a registered Nurse with a focus on holistic health and wellness. She has extensive experience working with ketamine to treat various mental health conditions and as a therapeutic breathwork expert.
Vanathy is going to share more about her work and how she uses psychedelics with her patients.
Read on and learn more about how medical professionals, such as Vanathy, use psychedelics to support their patients’ mental health.
💺 A Personal Journey to the Psychedelic and Holistic Space
Vanathy came to the medical psychedelic space thanks to her own personal journey. After a heavy childhood with a lot of family traumas she battled with severe depression, PTSD and suicidal ideations. Despite having learnt to manage her mental struggles, she decided to free herself. This is when she discovered psychedelics. In an experience quite similar to mine, she found that research on psychedelics kept crossing her path. After going on a journey powered by psilocybin, Vanathy’s personal and professional lives aligned towards the Psychedelic and Holistic space. She is now the Director of the Conscious Mind Clinic in Vancouver.
Our Brain Power Microdose helps support memory, mental focus, stamina, cognitive health, mood & brain functions, while relieving symptoms of stress & anxiety.
🍄From Ketamine to Microdosing and Breathwork
The focus of the Conscious Mind Clinic is on mental health and psychedelics, as one of the tools in their toolkit. Improving mental health via psychedelics requires more “work” than just taking a magic pill once. The clinic offers microdosing coaching with different products, such as with Amanita Muscaria (for calm), psychedelic assisted therapy with psilocybin and MDMA (both approved by the Health Canada model), and harm reduction via integration and preparation.
🙌Patients’ Profiles, Results and Success Stories
The specific diagnoses the Conscious Mind Clinic focuses on are; treatment resistant depression, end of life distress and PTSD. Patients tend to have a high trauma load and by the time they come to the clinic they have already tried multiple medications and therapies, sometimes for decades. Hence the high expectations that have to be managed accordingly by the practitioners. Even if the diagnoses covered fall under the same umbrella, the profiles of the patients are very diverse. The success stories and tools used are varied too. As an example, Vanathy saw great success with clients experiencing OCD and severe anxiety.
🙋Most Common Patients’ Questions
There is a high level of expectation from those curious about psychedelics, due to the recent media coverage of the space and sometimes unrealistic messaging conveyed by enthusiasts. Accordingly the main questions are usually anchored in pretty optimistic assumptions regarding brain rewiring. The hype around the medicine has led some to believe that it is a magic pill. This can be dangerous as this can negatively impact patients’ mental health when their unrealistic expectations are not met. This is especially true when it comes to macrodosing journeys advertised as life-altering experiences without the context of what those life changes could be.
I hope you enjoyed this insightful discussion with Vanathy. You can learn more about her and the Conscious Mind Clinic on their website.
